At GAHC, we take patient safety as our top priority. In order to minimize risk, your pet will have presurgical blood work. This includes a Complete Blood Count or CBC, a 17-panel chemistry profile, electrolytes, a thyroid test, and an early kidney disease detection test called an SDMA. These tests help us to determine if your pet is healthy enough for surgery, what drugs are indicated as safest for the individual patient, and if there are any other concerns to be aware of prior to anesthesia induction. We also want your pet to be up-to-date on vaccines, their fecal exam, heartworm prevention and heartworm testing prior to surgery as well.
